Back in May, we wanted to encourage askers to split their prize money, in cases where they received help from multiple answerers. Our efforts in that regard have not had the results I expected.
I was just looking in the database and my queries gave me these numbers:
Before June 1st we had 206 completed questions and 255 paid answers, so the ratio was 1.23 paid answers for every question.
Since June 1st we have had 89 completed questions,
and 105 paid answers, so the ratio has been 1.18 paid answers for every question.
The difference is small, but I would have thought it was going the other way.
It is possible that this reflects the reality of the answers that askers have been getting – that increasingly a single expert gives the full answer and so there is no need to split the prize money.
It is also possible that, since we have a lot of new people on the site, the newer askers are less aware of the fact that they can split their prize money.
I do not want to put too much pressure on this issue, since of course the askers have the right to give all the prize money to one answerer when they feel that they received all of their information from one answerer. But I also want to be sure that askers know that they can split the prize money. Any suggestions in this regard is welcome.
